In 2015, 193 member countries of the United Nations adopted a new global policy: a 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, whose objective is to increase the development of the world and improve the quality of life for all people.
To this end, were 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) established with 169 goals? they are achieved through a joint action that brings together different levels of government, organizations, companies and society as a whole at the international and national and also local levels.
SDG 12 aims at sustainable production and consumption, with a focus on global and local actions, such as the efficient use of natural resources. This objective also includes care for solid waste and the reduction of pollutant emissions.
As far as waste is concerned, this SDG can be reduced by reducing waste generation through reduction, reduction, recycling and reuse, as well as consumption in production.
In addition, rethink the product life cycle and redesign a production chain. Separate and dispose of waste properly. Take care of food waste and loss, including post-harvest loss. Adopt technologies that recover waste, make the most of raw materials, think about post-consumption and packaging, being linked to the principle of extended producer responsibility.
One of the goals of this SDG until 2020, to reach or manage environmentally the chemical products and all residues, the period of execution of the life cycle of these items, according to the internationally agreed milestones and to reduce the external use of these items air, water and soil, an end to its negative effects on human health and the environment.
Another goal is by 2030, it substantially reduces the generation of waste through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.
It is increasingly evident that the adoption of sustainable production and consumption patterns and the management of proper use of waste can reduce damage to the environment and health.
Waste management, without context ODS 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production, means ensuring a healthy life and a healthy planet in the future. Good management is relevant and supports the implementation of many others, if not all of the SDGs.
