We are going to report through our perception some tendencies about waste that can indicate some changes or postures that can be taken or observed for those who work on this area. Whether receiving, shipping, recycling and even generating, there are many good things to come in 2021, on these segments, but not everything can happen calmly. Because if we see the year of 2020, many tendencies did not materialize, because it was a different year for everybody.
The tendencies use to be influenced by the behavior of the moment, so, as we can observe, we will still live in 2021, many things from the atypical year of 2020, which makes some tendencies more tacit than others.
Waste transportation from Health Service and EPI’s: this segment will still have much movement, mainly because of the reflex that COVID-19 causes in the hospitals, generating big quantities of waste from health service and from equipment of individual protection.
Treatments by autoclaves, microwaves and incinerators: who works with this segment will continue with a high demand, like the generation of contaminated waste, mainly linked to the waste from the health service, it will continue high, and its correct final disposal passes through sterilizations done with autoclaves, disinfection through microwave or through the incinerators heat treatment process.
Licensed Landfills: they will continue with a very high volume, due to the generation chain and the correct final disposal from the health service waste. These three first tendencies are very visible and are interconnected. Besides the high waste generation that the pandemic brought, the population’s vaccination will also generate a big quantity of waste, thus 2021 will have a wide movement on these areas.
Increasing on the quantity of plastic in the market: on one hand there is the tendency that the recyclable plastic lows its market value, but the volume may increase. Not only because the recyclable plastics are being separated and sorted better, but a lot comes from the movement of the petroleum industry, that is losing market in the fuel fabrication, mainly because of the electric and hybrid car market and, also, because of the logistic and transportation sector, that had a big diminishing on the consumerism. Thus, the petrochemical segment turns its force into plastic, which will provide a wide offer of products.
Digital transformation on the waste management: we have observed a huge movement by the companies from many segments to control better their processes and many are betting on the waste controlling, once they work with waste and search for time optimization and traceability; like those ones that generate waste and search for indicators for the decision taking. On the other hand, many governments, state or federal, are choosing to integrate digital platforms to the waste chain management and, this way, let all the process more transparent.
